What Is The Best Digital Compact Camera Around?
when it comes to durability, quick shutter & between shots, compatibility with SD cards, picture quality and global warranty which make or brand of digital compact / bridge camera is best?
The short answer is there is no perfect brand. Some models are good, some are not. It’s just like everyone has a bad day once in a while.
If you’re looking at a compact with full manual capability, the pack leaders are the Canon G10 and Panasonic LX3.
Superzooms and bridge cameras, look at Canon SX10IS and Nikon P90. Though you may want to think about the Olympus E4xx SLRs and the Panasonic SLRs, both are super small.
Supercompact cameras, the ones that aren’t much larger than a credit card…well personal experience leads me to say Sony. Mainly due to their skills in minaturisation and high-tech alloys. Using a good magnesium (used in Formula 1) or titanium (used in aerospace) alloys reduces weight compared to steels and reduces volume compared to polymers (plastics to you), while achieving the desired mechanical properties (I’m a Materials Engineer).
Finally if you have the money then nothing can beat the Leica M8 with Summilux or Summicron glass for all round performance. The Rolls Royce of the camera world. Out there on its own as a traditional rangefinder camera.
