What digital camera is equivalent to the Canon AE?
I’m looking for a camera that is similar to the Canon AE. This was the first camera i’ve ever used and I absolutely love it, but I don’t want to have to buy film anymore, nor do I want to have to develope the pictures. I want a camera that is just like this one where I would have to manually zoom, and lenses that can be changed, but digital.
Most every DSLR sold these days are designed for autofocus and zoom lenses. For you, this means two problems:
- many lenses (especially kit lenses) no longer have focus or DoF markings
- the viewfinder (the “ground glass” screen in particular) doesn’t have manual focusing aids
Autofocus can usually be turned off, but focusing is practically impossible without the above items. Some newer DSLRs have “rangefinder” capability, which isn’t quite the same as seeing yourself how the lens is focusing.

I still have the T70 and FD lenses I used to learn photography, and they feel so very different from the digital equipment I use now.
