Best SLR digital camera under $600?
Looking to buy a new digital SLR camera as a present from teds Australia. Any idea on the best ones to buy? Looking seriously at the NX5 (samsung I think). Is this camera good and is the telephoto lens worth getting?

Go Canon or Nikon. First and foremost they are the top DSLR manufacturers in the world.
You will also have a much easier time finding lenses and accessories for them-because they are the most commonly used. Lenses and accessories for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax are all made by Sigma, Tamron and Tokina. Samsung-not so.
From what I see just glancing at the NX5 specs it’s a little behind the others.
I think the only current one under $600 is the Nikon D3100. It’s an excellent camera for a beginner and to grow with. It even has a program within to help you learn more about using the camera. You won’t regret it over the samsung.
