The New Motorola Bravo
The recent Android smart phone fever continues on as Motorola dishes out a new smart phone. Aimed at being an affordable low-end smart phone, the Bravo, still offers some high end features such as a 800 MHz processor and it also runs on Android 2.1.
Making the Motorola BRAVO somewhat distinctive, the company included the latest version of Motorola’s MOTOBLUR UI, which makes it easier to deal with communications such as emails and updates in one space. And being Android powered, the Motorola BRAVO puts forward Google applications such as Google Search and Gmail, which are integrated on to the device. Measuring 109.5 x 63 x 13.3 mm and weighing just 122 grams, the new smart phone offers 3G HSDPA 850/1900; Adobe Flash 10.1 support; 480 x 854 pixels FWVGA 16 million color capable display, 2GB internal memory, 512-MB Flash memory and pinch and zoom and double tap features.
What’s more, Motorola’s smart phone is WCDMA 850/1900 GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and 3G HSDPA network ready. And for data connectivity, it adds in Stereo Bluetooth v2.1 EDR with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n wireless networking with DLNA, GPRS class 12, EDGE class 12, 3G HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and a 3G HSUPA 2.0 Mbps connection. The device also features a 3.15 MP digital camera with digital zoom lens, auto-focus, Geo-tagging and image stabilization.
Motorola BRAVO accessories include chargers, covers, headsets, batteries and belt clips. Specifically a Motorola Ferrari Micro USB Vehicle Charger for Motorola BRAVO, a Motorola Bluetooth Headset for Motorola BRAVO, a Wireless USB Vehicle Charger and a Amzer Zipper Neck Lanyard with Compass-Grey for Motorola BRAVO are available. It is also a good idea to protect your device with a Motorola BRAVO case. Cases for the Bravo come in many different styles, colors, and designs such as leather, metal, silicone and plastic. The cases also come in alligator or ostrich. The Motorola BRAVO screen protector, which keep fingerprints off the screen and prevent the smart phone from getting dirty too quickly, range from the low end $3.95 for Plantronics Multi-Purpose Sanitizing Towelette Set to the $19.95 ZAGG ZAGGFoam for Motorola BRAVO.
One group of analysts said the global market for mobile phones surged 35 percent in the third quarter commanding a nearly 100 percent increase in smart phone sales. The analysts pointed toward Google’s open source Android operating system as the biggest advancer with a jump from 3.5 percent in the third quarter of 2009 to 25.5 percent this year. End users purchased 20.5 million Android devices in the third quarter compared to Apple which posted sales of 13.5 million units. Apple still managed to hold on to the number one spot, but were closely followed by Samsung then Motorola.
The Motorola Bravo is more likely to compete against Android phones such as the Samsung Captivate and the Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 than against the iPhone4. Features of Samsung’s high-end smart phone include a 4-inch super AMOLED display, 7.2 Mbps connectivity and a 1GHz Hummingbird processor while Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 features a 4-inch capacitive touch screen with 480 x 854 pixels. The Captivate weighs in at 4.5 ounces, 0.3 ounces lighter than the iPhone 4 and it is just 0.39 inches thick. The Xperia X10, which weighs 4.8 ounces, includes microSD up to 16GB, (8GB included) and an 8.1 MP camera with a 1 GHz processor. Even so, Motorola’s BRAVO will hold its own with a slightly larger screen at 3.7-inch touch screen and Adobe Flash 10.1 support as well as video recording and playback and CrystalTalk PLUS, which cancels out background noise to enable you to improve hearing your caller through the use of two microphones that filter out a noisy environment.
