I need help taking photos at a concert with my digital camera.?
I am going to a couple of concerts soon, and would like to take some NICE pictures. The last concert I went to they were all blurry. I used the night mode and that is the way they turned out. When I just use the regular auto flash mode, you can’t see a thing! I have an HP PhotoSmart R607 4.1 resolution. I would appreciate any tips. Thankyou!
The R607 offers a lot of advanced settings. To get the most out of your camera at concerts, you’ll have to take control of those settings, the same as with a professional camera:
* Set the ISO to 400. Crank it all the way up.
* Turn the flash OFF. (It’s useless beyond 15 feet. Beyond 15 feet, using the flash actually screws things up.)
* Set metering to Spot metering, and ALWAYS focus the middle of the viewfinder exactly on a face. The default metering mode is Average. You can change this to Center weighted or Spot. (If you don’t want all of your prints to be exactly centered on a face, crop the pictures later on your PC)
* Set the camera to Aperture priority, and select the smallest aperture number. (If you’re zoomed all the way out that will be 2.6 and if you’re zoomed all the way in it will be 4.8)
This requires a lot of discipline, but the results will blow ‘night mode’ out of the water!
I use a digital SLR myself, so I’m used to fiddling with settings to get the most of my camera. It’s nice when compacts offer the same possibilities.
