What sort of camera should I get?
Can anyone help?
I’ve currently got a Panasonic Lumix F27 – 5mp (Ithink!) 12 x optical zoom which has been a great little camera but feel I’ve ‘outgrown’ it as it’s quite limiting. I’d like more zoom and mega pixels as I take a lot of detail and need to substantially enlarge images these days. I’m not remotely technically-minded and have never used an SLR or DSLR as I find shutter speeds,etc., difficult to understand – it’s like maths to me!! Is there a difference in the image quality between digital and DSLR cameras? If I were to use a DSLR on the Automatic setting, would I get the same sort of results as if it had been used in SLR mode? I’m so confused by all that’s on offer so I’d really welcome any comments/suggestions, etc. Thank you.
You should go for Nikon D3000 which is a entry level Digital SLR.
Tip:
If you are buying your first SLR, I’d generally recommend the D40 over a more advanced model. While I’m always in favour of buying good quality (it saves money over the long run), it makes sense to go for the D40 to start off with, and then upgrade only once you start hitting its limitations (which, for many people, will be never). It won’t be a wasted expense if you later decide to upgrade because there are places where it doesn’t make much sense to carry a D3 because of the risk it might be stolen or damaged.
You will need to budget for lenses. It’s much better to buy a less expensive camera and spend your budget on buying better quality lenses, than buy an expensive camera and cheapskate by buying non-Nikon or non-Canon lenses. The choice of lenses will have an effect on the quality of your images that you will be able to see.
