Nikon Coolpix L1 Digital Camera. How do I delete a photo that keeps giving the message “Cannot read file”?
Every time I try to delete the broken file off the SD card the message comes back as “cannot read file” and the camera freezes at that point not allowing me to do anything. I brought the SD card to a photo booth to try and delete it that way and the message on the stores photo screen reads “corrupted file” and cannot open it. How do I get this so called corrupted file off the SD card so I can continue using it?
I tried putting the SD card into my memory card reader on my printer and the message is “cannot read file”. I started to format the card but it warned that all photos will be deleted. Can’t do that either. No way around this it seems. Thanks for your answers anyway.
Try to note the name of the file (or deduce it’s name based on the file before and after it on the sd card) usually it is a series of numbers e.g. DCF100234 or 101-00234 are examples of what you might see.
Put the sd card into your computer/laptop. (If you don’t have a card reader on your computer, borrow a friends, or buy one for around $15)
Open windows explorer (start-programs-accessories-windows explorer)
Or if autoplay pops up, choose “open folder to view files”.
Navigate to the sd card (might be called F:SANDISK or E:NIKON for example)
In the root directory you will probably see two sub folders: misc and dcim. There could be others but just go to dcim, and choose the subfolder that starts with the same series as the file name. Find the file you want to delete (At this time, you could try double clicking it to see if your windows software will read it…) Anyway, right click and delete.
Put the card back in the camera and off you go.
