question on digital camera binoculars..i need opinions…?
i wanted a pair of digital camera binoculars for christmas, and i ended up gettin two pairs. One is a Simmons Captureview 8×42, and the other one is a Meade Captureview 8×30. I will probably be using it for sporting events and taking pictures while i am hiking or just outside. Which one should i keep?
If the Simmons is indeed 8×42, I’d choose that pair. NEITHER binocular has a zoom lens. They are both 8 power. The second number refers to the diameter of the lens. A 42 mm lens will do a better job at gathering light than a 30 mm lens and a 42 mm binocular is generally of better quality than a 30 mm binocular. I looked for both of these on eBay and I’d bet a nickel that they are both made by the same company and labeled with different brands for retail sale. Unless there is an obvious difference in overall quality or a huge difference in pixel count on the imaging system, I’d go with the 8×42. 8×42 is pretty much the “standard” configuration for nature and bird watching. 30 mm is a “starter” binocular.
