How do I use my telephoto lense on my Digital Camera?
I have a Fuji Fine Pix S5200 (super CCD) digital camera. I recently got a telephoto lense for it, and don’t know how to use it, when I attach it, the pictures come out with a black border around them, and the object of the picture is framed with a black circle. This is also how they print. For some reason (the lense’s were ordered offline) And no they aren’t crappy brands, they didn’t come with directions or manuals. My other lenses work perfect, but this one has me confused. I would appreciate the feedback. Thank you!
I checked your owner’s manual, and Fugi did not set the S5200 up to use a telephoto adapter. They only have a Wide Angle adapter described.
All lenses and adapters are not compatible with each other. There are many different possibilities for how wide a lens will present the image.
First the camera engineers have to make sure the installed lens yields an image big enough to cover the sensor. (Lenses yield round images. So the image has to be big enough that the rectangular sensor fits inside the circle. Then the corners are ignored.)
Then the engineers have to be sure that any adapter lens doesn’t reduce the image so that the circle is smaller than the sensor. If it is smaller, you see the dark corners, the vignetting.
That is what has happened to your camera. The adapter you have is not engineered for that camera lens. So you see the dark corners.
If possible, try to return the tele adapter and find another that will be compatible with your camera. (This may be difficult, because Fuji did not come up with one themselves.)
Otherwise, you can do what Dr. Sam suggested and crop out the dark corners.
