An ID Badge System Is A Beneficial Addition
Just the printing of a customized plastic card cannot provide the complete security that you need for your group, but that printed card is an important piece in the framework of your security procedures and policies. To keep your employees, physical and virtual assets safe, the employee ID badge is a critical element. To print these customized badges, you will need to obtain a badge system so that you can implement an in house identification system. Following are some ID badge system components you will need.
Badge Printer
The badge printer determination should be based on the output requirements of your card as well as the reputation of the printer brand selected. To choose the ID card printer best for your needs, you will need to determine if card will be printed on just one side or both sides. Sometimes a professional printer is needed due to card requirements. If you need advanced security on the card or if you plan to print a high volume of the cards, a basic card printer will not meet your needs. Software
Software will be around for a while so current and future plans are important in this decision. If plans are to integrate printing capabilities from a network or save a database of cards, some software options will not work for you. Most reputable ID badging software manufacturers provide a free trial so you can get a feel as to whether it will fit your badge printing needs or not.
Camera
Employee pictures are commonly placed on most ID cards. Excelled pictures make employees less apprehensive about displaying their badge. Assorted camera options are available. Each has its own limitations and advantages. Over the counter digital cameras and web cameras are popular cameras used to capture needed photographs.
Cardstock
Most identification cards are printed on 30 ml image grade cardstock. Newer methodologies and ideas have lead to printing on 10 ml cards and the 40 ml cards. Cards requiring additional security options or specialized functions are on the rise. There is a thin sticky card used that can be adhered to the security card while needed allowing for the security card to be reused if the card holder leaves the company.
Supplies
Ongoing expenses of an ID system include printer ribbons, cards and cleaning kits. Badge attachments are used if the cardholders will be displaying their badges.
To ensure that ID card printing is not interrupted, make sure that you have plenty print ribbons and cardstock available. Badging supplies are available online or from your security integrator. The printer is normally cleaned about every 1000 prints. Current badge printers provide messaging to indicate that it is time to clean the printer. Keeping the printer clean is important to its longevity.
ID cards do not provide for the completed safety of your facility, but the badges are necessary in company security processes for right kind of environment for organizational success.
