The Amazing Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera (Fourth Part)
This is the fourth installment of my review of the Nikon D 3100 digital SLR camera.
So for different occasions or subjects you are going to need different focal length lenses. One solution is to obtain and carry a selection of different lenses and some photographers do that. But wouldn’t it be convenient if you could get just one or two lenses that could change their focal lengths to suit most of the situations you are going to encounter? A zoom lens does exactly that and the numbers that describe them tell you the shortest and longest focal lengths that they provide.
For example , an 18-55mm zoom lens would be suitable for landscapes and general use whereas an 18-105mm zoom makes possible some medium telephoto work and taking portraits. A 55-200mm or 55-300mm zoom lens would be used for telephoto photography, taking pictures of animals without getting close and disturbing them for instance. By buying two different zoom lenses with your camera you can have a focal length available for most photographs you will want to take.
It is worth noting that there are single lenses which cover a wider focal length range such as 18-200mm. These generally are more expensive, but depending on your budget they are well worth considering because you avoid having to change lenses, possibly in an exposed environment if you expect to need that variety of focal length on a particular occasion.
Summary
The Nikon D3100 digital SLR camera is an easy to use yet technologically advanced camera that can deliver superb results for both photographs and video. With a big choice of compatable lenses this is a highly versatile camera. Weighing just 505g with a rechargeable battery and SD (secure digital) memory card inserted it is relatively light and offers excellent value for money for both the photographer getting their first SLR camera and the more experienced photographer purchasing a new model.
