Nikon D5000 + 2 lenses- is this a good deal?
Nikon D5000 12.3MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR and 55-200mm f/4-5.6G VR Lenses and 2.7 inch Vari-angle LCD for $846, new?
This will be my first D SLR, is this a good starter kit for me? Thanks??
I wish you had told us where you found such a great deal. Since the same kit – D5000 w/18-55mm VR lens and 55-200mm VR lens is shown at $999.90 at B&H the price you show makes me a bit suspicious. I strongly suggest checking the seller at http://www.resellerratings.com Plus, at B&H there’s a $150.00 “Instant Savings” offer (ends 6-26-2010) making their cost $849.99.
I also suggest taking a serious look at the Pentax K-x. It has Live View, video capability and double/multiple exposure capability plus it has an in camera focusing motor and Pentax’s version of Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body. Since the D5000 doesn’t have double/multiple exposure capability that’s a creative possibility you lose with it. The D5000 also lacks an in camera focusing motor so you have to buy either AF-I or AF-S lenses for it if you want auto focus. Since Nikon has VR in only some of their lenses you get to pay for it again and again. With the in camera IS of the Pentax K-x any len you use will become an IS lens.
