Before I get my Digital SLR, I want to know a thing or two…?
I already have a Sony Cybershot (DSC-S40) which comes very handy sometimes but for my photography class, I need a “professional” camera so I want to know a bit about Digital SLR before I get one.
Can I still use it as my Sony Cybershot? Ya know, take a couple of pictures and hook it up in my PC’s USB and open it in Photoshop?
Because that’s the type I want.. 
Also, what are some good Digital SLR’s for around $800?
The first advice I would give would be to go to your local camera store or best buy and just see what fits well. Don’t worry about the brands right away because at this point you don’t have any money invested in lenses so it really won’t matter. I personally like Nikon, but others swear by Canon. Both have their positives and negatives.
For your price range I would look at Nikon’s D50, D70, or if your willing to pay a little more the D80. If Canon strikes you the Rebel or the 30D would do well.
I’d stay away from Olympus and other brands that haven’t really been that involved in photography in the past because of poor lens selection. Good Luck!
