Can anyone explain the difference between the digital RAW image format and the other available camera formats?
As the others have said, RAW files are larger because they have all the shooting information in them. This equals out the highest setting on cameras, and meaning the best. People who shoot in RAW usually post process their images.
Jpeg are smaller formats compared to RAW, because they discard some information, depending on the settings; basic, fine, extra fine usually. Extra fine being the best. With Jpegs, post processing is more difficult and images aren’t as crisp. Though, the highest setting Jpeg is usually hard to distinguish between RAW images.
