Can you haggle prices on Camera Gear?
I’m going to be buying a Canon EOS 40D Digital SLR body in the next few weeks. I’m looking to buy it from a camera store here in Los Angeles.
I don’t feel comfortable with buying online for a few reasons. So far the body is going for any where between $1,100 to $1,200 dollars.
Can you really haggle prices on camera gear or are the prices really locked in?
depends on the store…best buy sales rep cant mark it down(only managers or dept heads maybe) and unless theres a good reason they wont
camera stores like sammy or small non-chain small stores might gets discount on accessories that you also get with it(free cleaning cloth/discount on filters for lens..ect)
i can understand fear of ebay(trusting an average joe to send it right)… but shopping at highly respectable stores like bhphotovodeo, beachcamera, or sammys(they have online only prices on somethings) is not a risk
try an online shop buying something like a filter or extra battery, it wont be a huge loss if it goes wrong and it will allow to to get more comfortable shopping online and experience with a certain dealer.
