Canon Ixus 870 IS shutter speed?
Hello,
I have a Canon Ixus 870 IS / SD 880 digital camera and I wonder how to get lower shutter speed. I can take pictures at 1/60 but it’s not fast enough for sports and so on (with flash on), and I get 1/200 if I approach with camera 1cm to the light bulb and so I’m wondering how to get some lower speeds, because this camera could do that and I have seen some pictures taken at 1/500! (no manual controls to change it)! Thanx all
I meant lower as a low value speed (1/500 it’s lower than maybe 1/60 but it’s faster) – my mistake 
with kids & pets i get 1/60 shutter speed. Maybe I’ll get new digital camera with manual controls and better shutting speed
Because the SD880 IS is a point & shoot camera, your options are fairly limited.
It doesn’t have a Sports setting, so you should try the ‘kids & pets’ scene mode. This will apply a faster shutter speed to try and freeze action or movement. This would work best in outdoor light only.
1/500 sec is not a ‘lower’ shutter speed, but is actually a faster shutter speed, so I’m a little confused when you say that you want a lower shutter speed like 1/500 sec.
In very bright outdoor light your camera will apply a faster shutter speed.
Raising your ISO will also fool your camera into using faster shutter speeds. However, the higher the ISO, the more noise you get.
edit….you should get faster shutter speeds than 1/60 sec when using kids & pets. This is for outdoor use. Obviously it won’t apply a fast shutter speed for lower light situations like indoors.
Some of Canon’s SD ( or other models) have full manual controls (aperture & shutter priority) so, maybe you should get a different camera if you want more control. Good luck…
