Can someone please explain to me a digital camera’s ISO? What is it?
And how does it affect pictures taken at night? My night pics come out lousy. If I use a flash, the pic doesn’t look like it’s at night, and if I don’t use a flash, it’s blurry! What can I do? I have the Canon Powershot A560.
ISO or the older ASA is the standard that is used to kinda make a digital camera compatible with a film camera. Films come in different ISO values and it is a measure of the films sensitivity to light. With a digital camera you can set the ISO # in the menu much like you can set the white balance. An ISO of 100 would be standard for normal well lit scenes out side. A higher setting, such as ISO 400 (comparable to a fast speed film) will give a better exposure in weak light, but with digital, has a tendency to get “grainy”. To take night pictures with out flash you need a tripod to hold the camera still. When I do night work (fireworks for example) (or a full moon) I not only use a tripod, I also use the wired remote on my Pentax SLR.
