Why does my digital camera shoot 30 fps video but only for 10 seconds at a time? 20 minutes total memory space?
It comes default in 15 FPS QVGA; but you can make it 30 fps and VGA; in all modes it will shoot for whatever amount of time EXCEPT in 30 fps and VGA in which it has memory for 20 minutes but will only shoot for 10 second intervals. That’s BULL SHIT!!! It’s an Olympus 10.0 MP model u1040 ; for the 10 sec intervals it takes GREAT video but I can’t get it to shoot for over 10; why can’t it do it’s whole 20 minutes at once?
Probably because your camera’s internal transfer rate. The camera has it’s own memory that stores data before it can be saved to the removable piece. When shooting a high-res video, due to the massive amount of data which needs to be transfer, the camera cannot keep up (the speed of data being created it faster than the speed it’s being transferred), so it has to take a break to wipe its memory clean in order to take new ones.
