couple of questions about accesorising this camera?
I am planning on buying this camera: http://fujifilm.co.uk/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/d-slr-long-zoom/finepix-s2000hd or the one above it, the s2500
1) As you can see, there’s no thread suitable for attaching filters, I’m wondering if there’s something I can buy that can attach to the camera that has a thread in it that will allow me to use screw in filters with this camera. I’ve heard of something like a rubber tube that slips over the lens barrel with a thread at the other end?
2) Is there any way of syncing this camera to a flashgun. It says it has a remote included, is there a way of syncing both camera and an external fllashgun to one remote?
1. I’m not aware of anything you can buy to attach filters to, but it is possible (depending on the filter) to physically hold one in place over the lens during an exposure. You can do this with ND filters for example when doing long day time exposures. As long as the filter size is slightly large than the lens diameter you can hold it tight against the lens.
2. Remote flashes are usually fired by radio triggers which fit in the cameras hotshoe. This camera doesn’t have a hotshoe so that won’t work. However, if you have an external flash that has an optical slave mode (Yongnuo do a good manually adjustable flash for around £41 that has an optical slave) you could trigger an off camera flash optically using the flash on your camera.
The remote they refer to is probably an IR remote shutter release – won’t trigger a flash.
I’m just thinking that if you find the constraints of this bridge camera too much even before you’ve bought it, maybe it isn’t the camera for you. Maybe rethink and get an entry level DSLR or a compact like the Canon G11 which has full manual control, a hotshoe and I believe a threaded front lens.
