Which digital camera is better and why – Sony DSC-W50 or Casio EXZ60?
I’d tend to say the W50 because it has a Zeiss Tessar lens. This year, for some reason, Casio stopped buying Pentax lenses as they did on the EXZ50.
Both, however, are good cameras. I’m just not sure who makes the Casio lenses and the lense is the heart of the camera.
I sell both, actually I sell the W30 (2″ screen instead of 2.5″) and it outsells the Casio 10 to 1, however no one has complained about either cameras.
I’ve been selling the Casio since their first 2.0 mini, which was probably the first mini camera out there, back when Sony made big clunky onces like the P92.
One other thing to consider is that the Sony Duo stick is more expensive than the Casio SD card and you will need a big card for both cameras. A 256 SD card is going for under $20 right now, while a 256 Duo is going for about $35.
I’m trying to remember if there is anything on the charging end that is different. If I’m not mistaken the Casio charages in a cradle. Don’t remember how the Sony charges as we even sold our demo of the W30!
I’m also trying to remember if the Sony or Casio allows you to zoom while making videos. I know the Kodak V530, V570 and I think the new V603 and V610 allow zooming while making videos. These Kodak’s, by the way, also have a good lens from Schneider Optical, the second oldest German lens company.
I want to check out the V610, which we don’t carry yet. It’s got a 10X zoom from Schneider in a pocket size, so the lens barrel doesn’t come out the front. It’s also got a secondary 23mm eqivalent ultra wide angle lens.
If I’m not mistaken the Sony also has a very high ISO capability, something like ISO 1000 for night shots and extra flash distance.
That, plus the Zeiss lens makes it hard to beat!
