I am going to buy a digital camera; can someone give me some tips on the best deals?
I’ve never owned a digital camera before. Can someone tell me what to look for and what to avoid? Could you also tell me what to buy to get the most for my money?

It would be a great help if you could give us your budget and a little information on what you will be using it for-family, job, etc.
It depends a bit on what you are going to be taking photos of.
If you have young children and are wanting to shoot candid’s of their everyday life you want to watch out for a long shutter delay. Most low end point and shoot cameras have a very noticeable delay between pressing the button and the time the photo is actually taken. With small kids-the moment is gone just that fast.
Image quality, obviously
Megapixels don’t matter. If you want more information on that google the megapixel myth
zoom may matter to you-if you want to be able to zoom in on things far away you want to make sure you are getting a good sized OPTICAL zoom-not digital. Digital zoom is the camera just blowing the image up like a computer does. Digital zoom is the lens actually physically zooming in on the subject.
Stick to the known good brands. You can’t go too wrong with Canon or Nikon. Panasonic and Sony make some pretty good point and shoot cameras too. Fuji has some good stuff.
