White Cyc Studio Graphic Effects
Perhaps you have watched the series Star Trek on tv? Have you seen a Star Wars picture? Have you seen a Sci-Fi motion picture or Television show concerned with outerspace? Maybe you have thought about just how they developed the moments soaring in outer space? The majority of the graphic effects for these programs were shot in a white cyc facility using infinity cycs. The infinity cyc is curved at the bottom where the walls and floor join collectively creating a digital effect of limitless space. A white cyc studio is used on stage to generate an optical illusion of sky.
Star Trek is a great case showing the starship Enterprise traveling through limitless outerspace surrounded by stars from a long distance and the cameras zooming in on the starship. In the end it would present the starship Enterprise in outerspace while the cameras would zoom away from the space ship as the program was concluded. These kinds of graphic effects were executed using a white cyc studio. The model of the starship Enterprise was hanging from the ceiling in the heart of a white cyc stage.
What makes a good white cyc facility? The white cyc needs to be well built and clear of: visual flaws, seams, grime, visual edges, and pointed angles that induce shadows. The white cyclorama needs to have: 1) Well-organized space for zoom images and to avoid crowding, tough camera angles, and invite for appropriate lighting preparations. 2) A high ceiling to prevent complicated camera angles, and lighting complications. 3) Two or more cyc surfaces to film against to avoid shooting limitations. 4) Efficient time for assembly, shooting and take down if hiring a white cyclorama studio.
Several film facilities don’t have their very own white cyc facility, so when they want to use a white cyc studio they go out lot and rent one of several facilities in LA. There are a number of studios close by LA. Let’s take a look at what a couple of studios offer.
