The LEICA D-LUX 5 is characterised by clear lines and a stylish, uncomplicated design in an elegant black matt finish. Its formal simplicity, clear and intuitive controls, and a focus on essential features, are typical of all Leica cameras. Leica DLux5 features the Leica DC Vario-Summicro 1:2-3.3/5.1-19.2mm ASPH lens with a zoom range of 24-90mm, a fast lens with superior performance that enables high-quality photography even wide open. The newly develope 1/1.63? CCD image sensor increases image quality at the standard resolution of 10.1 megapixels.
The D-LUX 5 delivers a range of features designed to give you brilliant image quality in a compact (4 1/3 x 2 2/3 x 1 5/7″), lightweight (9.5 oz) camera–with sensitivity up to 12800 ISO, a bright, high resolution 3″ LCD display with 460,000 dots, a large 1/1.6.3″ CCD sensor, O.I.S. image stabilization, program and manual exposure modes, free online download of professional software (Adobe Lightroom 3) for processing RAW files (for the highest quality images possible), and dazzling 720p HD video. One advantage the Leica D-Lux 5 has over the Lumix is that it comes with a full version of Adobe LightRoom 3. This image-processing software is better at handling image data and RAW photo conversion compared with SilkyPix, which the Panasonic LX5 ships with.
Price has always been a deal-breaker for Leica products. The D-Lux 5 costs US$799, while the LX5 will set you back US$499. While some people may argue that the difference in price can be made up for since LightRoom 3 is more expensive, most users may not be willing to fork out almost twice as much to get the compact with the famous red badge. Just find the best deal on this stylish and elegant digital camera.
