Digital Camera recommendation?

I want something more than a normal Point and Shoot. I was looking at the Canon PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS 8.0MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom.
Seems to be sort of a semi-SLR, with a nice big lens, except there are no interchangeable lenses. But with a 12x zoom lens, I don’t know if I’d really even bother ever changing lenses. I didn’t like that it was only 8 MP.
So I guess my question is, is there any camera that offers lots of functionality, with a nice big lens, that zooms out to at least 10x zoom, and is at least 10MP?
The S5 IS is a bridge camera – not a DSLR, but more than a P&S.
It’s a good camera. Having less megapixels can actually be an advantage. For smaller cameras, packing so many little light sensors on the chip is actually detrimental. The quality starts to go down.
Think of it like muffins in a casserole dish. More is better, up to a certain point. When they’re perfectly in, it looks great. But if you start to put MORE in, they get squished and look bad.
The Canon is a very nice bridge camera. I was researching them, and the other two I was looking at were Olympus’s and Fuji’s.
My advice: look at the features. If it’s new, you don’t need to worry about the megapixels. Look at online reviews. Figure out what you want to do with it, then look for that info in the reviews. Does the camera work well in low-light? Have a good macro? Does it have a wider bottom angle (28 v. 35 mm)? Does it zoom in a lot (540 mm)?
