What is a good memory card for my digital camera?
I just purchased the Canon PowerShot SD1200IS 10MP Digital Camera

and I was wondering what is a good memory card. I don’t know anything about memory cards and I’m confused with all the Class 2 and Class 4 and Class 6 stuff.
I’m thinking of buying a 4 GB memory card but I have no idea what ‘Class’ to get….? If that even affects the quality of the photo or anything…
And also what brand should I get?
Any links or suggestions would be great. I live in Canada so it should be something I can buy from Canada.

I don’t plan to shoot any videos. I’m mainly using it purely for taking photos
Card classes have nothing to do with image quality, which depends entirely on which particular camera you have. Canon is an excellent brand, so no worries with image quality.
For optimum performance, fast formatting and fast file transferral (especially when using a card reader) a fast class of card is best. The SD1200 IS features Canon’s very latest Digic 4 processor, so it really does take advantage of a fast card.
Class 2 is far too slow, so you should avoid these. Remember that the various speed classes only refer to the card’s minimum read/write speed NOT it’s maximum. So, cards of the same class are not all the same speed.
I recommend a fast Class 4 card such as the excellent Sandisk Ultra II (which is faster than many Class 6 cards).
Or, preferably a fast Class 6 card, such as the excellent Sandisk Extreme III. This brand is a top brand, is very reliable and often recommended and used in camera review tests. I use it and highly recommend it.
Make sure you always format a brand new card (via the camera menu) before you use it the very first time (the camera User Guide tells you this) and format it again whenever you need to delete all files from the card. So, after you transfer all files to your computer, format it again to delete all files. Doing this regularly will keep the card in good order.
