How do I get my Digital camera to connect and use as the iSight camera on my Apple iMac?
When recording videos through the iSight camera, the fps goes down by a lot from 15.0 to as low as 5.75 when the video exceeds more than around 5-6 minutes and it makes the video quality really horrible. I tried connecting my Canon Ixus 700 7.1MP digital camera to my iMac using a USB cable but the Camera menu still says iSight Camera (default),
What’s wrong?
I heard that I should use a Firewire instead of the USB, is that true?
You want to use your Canon as a webcam, right? Some camera will work like that, and some won’t – it depends on the camera.
Plug the camera in via USB and wait for it to mount. Then go to Apple Logo > Settings and change the default camera setting from iSight to your Canon. If that’s not an option, your camera doesn’t support it.
It’s all about the USB interface in the camera: some allow real-time processing to an external source and some don’t.
