Should I upgrade my Canon 10D?
I received the Canon 10D this year as a gift from my mom’s boyfriend, he didn’t actually buy the camera for me though, he just bought a new one and let me have his old one. I’m debating whether or not to get a new camera or not though, because I would feel guilty since he gave me his camera. But the 10D is from 2003, and nowadays, things from 2007 are even considered old and outdated. I’m also going to be taking a digital photo class where we’re likely going to be printing large sizes (not exactly sure though) so I want to get a more recently made camera with more megapixels for better printing capability, since the 10D is only 6.3 MP. I was thinking of getting the Canon EOS Rebel T2i, but I was just wondering if I should even bother upgrading, or what I should upgrade to instead of the T2i. Thanks.
Also I know there’s a new Rebel T3i, but I don’t care for the flip out screen so I might as well save 100 dollars, so don’t suggest that.
I’d (almost) kill for a flip out screen, but that’s beside the point. If you have never had one, you don’t miss it, so that’s fine.
The 10D is a fine camera, and I’m sure it would do perfectly well for your class.
However, it sounds like you’re itching to get something new, and I do understand that…. I like my toys, too 
If you are worried about your mother’s boyfriend’s reaction, just make sure to put it in a positive way. Thank him for the camera, tell him how glad you’ll be if you can keep it as the backup body. Tell him how having the 10D has allowed you to learn so much about photography, and how it opened your eyes to the possibilities.
Jokingly blame him for letting you “smell blood”, so to speak….. joke about it being HIS fault that you caught the photography bug big time.
He, himself, got a new camera…… I bet he’ll understand.
You still sound unsure about which way to go, though. Make sure to do more learning and research before you buy something you regret later.
