What digital camera has the shortest lag time in the under $500 range?
I’m looking at a Canon SX100 IS. Currently have an old Kodak DC 240 zoom and it’s just too slow in between shots of my grandchild. Other possibilities to consider???–don’t think I’m ready for an SLR–prefer a point and shoot digital.
Wow, that old Kodak DC240 IS really old, isn’t it? (released in 1999).
I can guarantee that ANY new camera you buy today will be so much faster (plus have much better image quality and features) compared to your old one.
Canon is an excellent brand and has quite a few good models available. The tiny SD/Ixus models are great if you like your camera simple and small.
The SX100 IS has average shutter lag times. It’s a good camera with good image quality.
Also, have a look at the A720 IS, which might offer slightly better image quality (but a lower optical zoom).
The good thing about these two cameras, is that besides being full point & shoot cameras, they also have full manual controls (aperture & shutter priority modes).
To lessen shutter lag…remember to pre-focus first by half pressing the shutter button to lock in the focus, then wait for the right moment…and then press it all the way down. Using the flash will slow things down a bit, though.
Make sure you buy a fast SD card to go with your camera. Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III are great. Format the card before you use it…and everytime AFTER you have uploaded all images to your computer.
