Canon 20D with nice lens or 40D?
I am minoring in photography next year, so I need a camera that is advanced enough for that. I have a film canon slr and a digital non slr. Should I buy the 20D body with a better lense or the 40D body(using my film lense). I’m not considering the 30D b/cs I doesn’t seem to have enough upgrades from the 20D for the cost. Like I said I’m minoring in photography so I need a good camera, but I can’t spend more than about a thousand bucks for one.

You could always start with the 50mm 1.8 for only $90. That’s a nice lens for the price. It’s plastic, but still makes great images. If it fits your budget, you could step up to a 50mm 1.4 for around $325. Either of these will serve you well for portraits or just a general “walk around” lens to start with.
I agree that lenses are usually a better investment, but the rebate makes the 40D a lot more affordable right now. If I were you, that’s what I’d buy… then I’d start saving up for more/better lenses.
