great Point and Shoot
i aquired this camera for my sister and she’s loving them. We were looking for just a really good p&s which includes a great auto mode as well as we narrowed our choices on the Nikon 8100, Sony HX5V, ZS5 as well as Canon SX210is. We decided to opt for the Nikon a result of 1080p video, cmos chip for lowlight shooting plus 914k pixel LCD. The pics come out beautiful but you would like to reshoot sometimes as a result of flash overexposure or blurriness in low light (pretty typical with these mega soar compacts). The video is also great just be certain to get a school 6 SDHC card or even better and change the specifications to HQ video and also pics(for some reason Nikon defaults into the lower quality). I also recommend not with all the continuous AF (you’ll hear clicking sounds in the video).
I’m not mad about Nikon not giving a battery charger, instead you charge the battery within the camera with the usb cord. Come on Nikon! this also doesn’t automatically reposition pics utilized portrait mode (you’ll must put the camera upright to review). Hopefully some people fix that with up-to-date firmware. I wish your wide zoom (30mm) was better but it’s fine. The menus could be additional intuitive and a printed manual can have been great (it’s on the disk like all additional camera’s these days). finally, the software Nikon resources is lousy. Come to consentrate of it, all picture software from camera makers is lousy. Just select Picasa for photo organising and light editing and Photoscape for much more robust editing. Both no cost.
Anyway, it may sound similar to I’m nitpicking but it is just a pretty good p&s. several firmware fixes will generate this Nikon Coolpix S8100 shine. I recommend it regarding someone wanting a simple to use camera, great pics, decreased light, 10x zoom as well as stereo 1080p video. if you’d like manual controls look somewhere else.
