Will my 35mm lenses from my Cannon Rebel work on a digital Rebel?
I currently own a 35 mm Cannon Rebel camera and have some fully auto lenses for it. If I replace my 35 mm Cannon wiht the new digital Cannon Rebel, will the lenses from my 35mm Rebel work on the digital Rebel?
First off, Throivan doesn’t know what he/she’s talking about.
You can always use Film lenses on Digital SLR cameras. You cannot always use Digitally specific lenses on Film cameras. When you use a digital SLR specific lens or DX format lens on a FILM camera, you are more prone to vignetting or dark circular corners on the edges of the frame, because the digital lens is at a much wider angle of view than the film format. This is because digital SLR’s in the consumer and prosumer range have a 1.5x crop factor, meaning the frame is 1.5 times smaller than a standard 35mm film frame.
This is why you can always use Film or FX format lenses on digital SLR cameras. because the film frame is larger than the digital frame, there will be no vignetting – just a longer zoom and narrower angle of view. i.e., a film telephot lens of 70-300 translates to 70-300 times 1.5, or an effective zoom in digital of 105-450mm. There are some digitally specific lenses with digital focal lengths which are designed to be used on both film and digital cameras, but you were concerned if you could use your eos film lenses on your digital camera. Answer, Yes.
I just wanted to give you the reasons why you can, and clear up any confusion the other people who dont know what theyre talking about may have added to your dilema.
