Which Digital SLR Camera, Nikon or Canon?
I have narrowed my selection down to two cameras. The Nikon D80 and the Canon EOS Rebal XSi.. Both are similar in price. I am not a pro photographer, just want to take good looking pictures.
I do like the fact that the Canon does have the live view 3″ LCD and the Nikon has a 2.5″ no live view.
Canon has 12.2 mp vs Nikon 10.2 mp (although this is not important to me).
The Nikon was highest rated in the Consumer Reports (couldn’t find a review for the Canon).
Can anyone give me any advice one way or the other. Reliability?
I would go with the xsi, because as others have said it seems like you get more for your money. The xsi in .5 fps faster than the d80 if that makes a difference. Canon also seems to have more to offer in terms of accessories, and there are lots of really good books out there specific to the xsi that could help you, it also seems like with the xsi it will be easier to find others who have it as it is the best selling dslr right now.
I have an xsi, its easy to use and lightweight in terms of dslrs, maybe thats a problem for some, but I find that when I am hiking its nice to not have the extra weight that most other dslrs have. It can be used on full auto, but has all the settings you would want once you learn more about photography. The xsi is also cheaper, so the money you would save could go towards a bag or an extra battery.
You would probably be happy with either, just see how they feel in your hands, read some reviews and pick whichever you personally are more comfortable with.
