Digital camcorder/still camera- I am looking to buy one that is simple to use. What is the price range?
And specifically- what should I look for? I want to be able to do digital shots that I can edit and get good still shots also. What is the low price I could expect to pay (in the US) without getting junk—any good online venues?
I bought the Panasonic PV-GS300. It’s great. I read A LOT of reviews about it before i bought it. They were pretty much all good and I can see why. It’s small, light and takes great video. The Optical Image Stabilization really helps. The video is fantastic outside. So far there isn’t an affordable camcorder out there that works good in lowlight situations. If you’re going to use it inside make sure there is a lot of light.
I wouldn’t rely on camcorders for still shots. From what i’ve read they aren’t the greatest. The PV GS300 takes pics at 3.1 MP which is pretty good but i haven’t tried it yet. i just pack up the camcorder and digital camera.
Also it’s very easy to transfer the video from the DV tape to DVD so you don’t have to keep buying tapes.
I would definitely buy it again.
The prices range anywhere from $500-$650. Try looking it up on pricegrabber.com or nextag.com. If you buy it online be careful. Sometimes it isn’t worth it saving a few bucks and having to deal with an online store that is going to screw you. If you want to do some online reseach i would recommend cnet.com.
