When it comes to digital cameras it ultimately comes down to what you need to use your camera for. If you want a camera just for the sake of capturing the fun moments you are having when on holiday or with friends then you should be ok with a compact digital camera. Compact cameras, as their name suggest, are great for people looking for an easy to use portable camera. Although many compact cameras do have enough quality to serve you well. Unless you plan on blowing your pictures up very large then any camera with 4 mega pixels or more will be suitable.
At the other end of quality we have digital SLR cameras. These cameras are a lot bulkier but also offer much better picture quality and shutter speeds. You will also be able to find many different types of lenses available for digital SLR cameras that will be able to give you different features and effects when it comes to taking photos. These cameras will be much better for any moving or action shots you want to take.
Compact cameras are advantageous because you can fit them easily into your pockets. For the digital SLR cameras the main features are being able to take a very high quality photo that can later be resized and edited with minimal loss of clarity. Recently we have seen a new breed of cameras come to market that promise to give you the high quality of an SLR camera coupled with the portability of a compact. This new range of cameras has removable lenses much like digital SLR’s but also features a compact for but is a little bigger than a normal compact camera.
