The Professional Quality Nikon D7000 Digital Camera Is Ideal For The Experienced User Upgrading Or First Time SLR Owner Buying A High Performance Product (Part 3 Of 4)
This is the 3rd installment of my review of the Nikon D 7000 digital SLR camera.
Lenses
To realise the superb quality, beautiful results that can be achieved using the Nikon D3100, it is important that you have an equivalent quality lens, preferably with vibration reduction (VR). If you already have suitable lenses then you are probably thinking of buying the D3100 body only. Generally , camera bundles offer really good value for money, working out cheaper than ordering camera body and lenses seperately and will usually have various extras included such as ultraviolet filter or camera cleaning and care kit.
Twenty five years ago when I bought my first SLR camera, I have to admit that I was bewildered by the choice of lenses, the numbers on them and the features they offered. So here is a brief overview of which lenses you might wish to consider. This simplified explaination is intended to help the reader who is new to SLR photography , to understand the different lens options open to you . A more advanced user would also take into account such as the size of the camera’s sensor when choosing the correct focal lenght and lens.
The key here is the focal length of the lens, which is what all those numbers that describe a lens indicate. The basic idea is that the focal length of a lens determins it’s angle of view and also how much the subject will be magnified when you take a shot from a particlar position. To photograph a flower, building or a landscape you would use a wide angle lens with a focal length of say, 18mm. For general use a focal length of 35mm could be suitable whereas, for a portrait best results would be achieved with a medium telephoto lens with a focal length of at least 70mm. To get magnified images of birds and other wildlife or sporting events a telephoto lens with a focal length of 200 or 300mm is required.
